Beplan julle dalk 'n vakansie na die Kaap? Sit in die GPS, Super Fisheries en gaan smul aan die beroemde Gatsby! Die BBC het die volgende gesê oor die Gatsby;
"If you ask Capetonians about a local dish, a common suggestion would be the Gatsby – a foot-long, soft-white sub stuffed with combinations of meat (polony, masala steak, chicken or calamari), slap tjips (chips), sauce (piri-piri, tomato), cheese, fried eggs and salad. It’s an intimidating sandwich, requiring both hands and an empty stomach, the wrapper laid out to catch the bursting-forth contents, and a resignation to sauce-smeared cheeks and hands. Don’t be foolhardy enough to take one on solo; Gatsbys are made to share, usually cut in four."
So waar kom The Gatsby vandaan?
Volgens EAT OUT; "The unmistakably South African super sandwich had its humbling beginnings in the Cape Flats (where it's still most widely available). It was accidentally created in 1976 by Rashaad Pandy-or so the story goes. According to Pandy, he serendipitously invented the gatsby in the 70's after putting together a few odds and ends compromising of a Portuguese roll, hot chips, polony and atchar to feed a few hungry workers. Since then the sandwich-on-steroids has evolved into a favourite, particularly among workers and clubgoers, prized for being both budget- friendly and mouthwatering delicious."
